Fabulous Witches Welcome!

Fabulous Witches Welcome!

Bex's Hexes-The Podcast

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great Litha/Summer Solstice yesterday! Speaking of coming out of the broom closet, I wanted to address some Wiccan/Pagan beliefs. I was browsing through some “Wicca” blogs last week, and I discovered a few that are against Wicca and had some very strong opinions on what Wiccans believe. Of course I was surprised by what I read, because I certainly do not believe or practice what they had written. The first thing to tell non-pagans is that not all Pagans/Wiccans believe the same thing. Just because one Wiccan you know practices one thing, does not mean another Wiccan does. Paganism is a very open religion that prides itself on not being exclusive or judgemental! There are non-witch (or practicing) Wiccans, just like there are practicing witches who aren’t Wiccan. It is a hard concept for many to understand, but there is a large variety of beliefs that Wiccans/Pagans embrace. A great blog I found on this exact subject is http://notaboutreligion.com/2009/02/03/the-truth-about-wicca/. Check it out if you want to read more about what Wiccans do and do not believe. Below are some common misconceptions about Wicca. Feel free to let me know what you believe and practice-I would love to hear about your own spiritual journey!

*Wiccans are not Satan worshippers! Wiccans do not even believe in the existence of a “devil” or “Satan.” When we refer to the Horned God we do not mean Satan-we are referring to Pan (the Greek God) or one of the many other Gods who represent masculinity and are often represented by a goat.

*The pentacle is not a Satanic Pentagram. The five point star has been a religious and cultural symbol for hundreds to thousands of years. Even Christian knights use to use the pentacle to represent the 5 wounds of Christ or the first 5 books of the Bible. Wiccans use the pentacle as a symbol of protection from negative energy. The pentacle represents the 5 elements: earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. The pentacle is a very important and beautiful symbol to Wiccans!

*Wiccans are not polytheistic per say. Wiccans believe in one Divine being that is present in all living things and the universe. The Divine is represented by both a male and female version. Just like there are males and females in all living things too. Why should it not make sense then, that God has both a female and male side? We worship both the God and Goddess.

*Wiccans do not put hexes on people or create evil spells! Spells are just a form of praying and using focused intent to help accomplish something. Wiccans do not practice was it considered “dark” magic. Just like a Christian would pray for good health, a witch would do a spell/ritual for good health. The intent is the same, we just use a slightly different process.

*Wiccans do not believe in hell. We know that people are born with free will and have the potential to do good or bad.

*Wiccans do not hurt people or animals! Wiccans follow a code (the wiccan rede) that says “And ye harm none, do what ye will” We do not believe in harming people or animals! All living things are to be respected and loved!

*Wiccans are not immoral people! We believe in upholding the legal laws of where we live! We do not however, put rules on what is moral or not. Every person has different beliefs and practices. We respect all beliefs and do not believe it is okay to judge someone else’s beliefs.
* We do not run around naked all the time! While some covens do practice ritual "Skyclad" aka naked they are not standing around our public parks in the nude. I have never done ritual skyclad and there are many Wiccans who also do not do practice in the nude. This is not to say there is anything wrong with being skyclad during ritual, I am only meaning to point out to the general public that we do not doing everything naked.
* We do not preform occult sex rituals. While I am sure somewhere out there there are groups who practice some sort of sex/ritual, I can assure you that it is not a common Wiccan practice. I read a blog once that said they did not like all the wiccan sex rituals going on that were taking advantage of young girls. I have never seen and/or heard of one of my fellow Wiccans performing any sort of sex ritual!
**Please do not stereotype or judge people! Get to know someone to find out what they really believe and practice!

Merry Meet Friends!

My name is Rebecca, but many of my friends and family call me Bex. I also go by Hoi Sum (my Chinese name). I am not Chinese (as evident by the picture), but my hubby is. I am happily married and have 2 adorable dogs-Nacho Libre and Mayday Parker. No kids yet. I am Wiccan and a witch. I belong to the Healing Waters Family coven and my own family coven (with my husband) is Ga Ting of Devorant and Balance. Ga Ting means family in Cantonese and Devorant means Passion in French. I am a Scorpio and my husband is a Libra. I am an active member of Family Wiccan Tradition International (FWTI)-see their links below in Resources. I am also a vegetarian. I love to read, collect comics, ride motorcycles, MMA (mixed martial arts), blogging, and learning about Paganism and Wicca. Please see the bottom of this blog for my personal photos, and a military "Care Package" opportunity.
I hope you enjoy my blog!

Blessed Be,

Tip of the Week

Don't stress too much during this busy holiday season! Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed just stop, take a huge breath, and tell the Divine three things you are thankful for. When we take the time to focus on the positive in our lives we realize how blessed we truly are!

Blessings,

Bex

Military Care Packages

Hi Friends!

As you know many of our loved ones are currently serving in the military both at home and overseas. My brother Lee will be going to Afghanistan this November (2009) to serve in the war for a year. It is a very difficult and often lonely life in the military. Our soldiers love to receive letters and gifts from home. If you are interested in sending a "care package" to my brother and his unit please email me at gfg1983@hotmail.com and I will send you the mailing address. Please remember to keep all of our soldiers in your thoughts and prayers!
Thank you for your support!
